journalism that tells a story or informs about an event through photos.
Unlike other types of photography, this type of photographer is about
taking photos related to news. A photojournalist’s job is to inform
society of events occurring in the world so they photos must be relevant
and objective.
Photojournalists are important team
members of the media. Photos and videos grab attention and make readers
want to read accompanying articles or watch new programs. They help the
reader to visualize the news that is being presented. In some cases they
are essential for fully comprehending the story being reported
Photojournalism can be both exciting
and dangerous. A photojournalist covering a war, or disaster can find
himself in a very serious situation in his attempt to bring the news to
readers and inform them of important events.
The photojournalist role is being
objective is extremely important especially in today’s technologically
advance society where news and photos can be transmitted so quickly.
There is a great responsibility to ensure that the information getting
to the public is factual.
Photojournalist may work for a news
organization or they may be free lancers who sell their photos or videos
to various publications. With the proliferation of tiny digital cameras
and cell phone cameras there are many amateur photojournalists who
capture events that they may find themselves a part of. This has
resulted in photos that in some cases would never have been seen before
but can also sometimes cause issues with people putting themselves or
others in danger in order to record something to try to get on the news.
