Digital Photography Lighting

Digital photography lighting is one of the most important aspects of taking quality photographs.  Poor lighting can ruin the impact of an otherwise beautiful subject.

The best type of lighting for an photography is natural light but there are times when natural light is not available or needs to be supplemented with other light sources. Here are some other light sources:

On Camera Flash- Almost all digital cameras come with flash units. However, they have limited power an their position close to the camera is not ideal, causing shadows if the flash is the only source of light and the subject is close to a wall.

Off Camera Flash-off camera flash can be used with cameras that have a flash synchronization socket. the best kind to buy is one with a swivel head so that the flash can be point up, down, or side to side.

Ring Flash-used for lighting close ups or small objects and also sometimes in fashion or portraiture

Studio Lighting-A studio flash unit is a gas filled glass tube with wire wrapped around it. electricity is discharged into the wire and the gas in the tube emits a burst of intense light. Studio lights are normally used along with reflectors and soft boxes used to direct the light.
